How did I put on weight?

Frequent travel, variable hours for eating and lack of control on diet, coupled with intermittent rather than regular exercise. Made me put on weight. I had gained weight over a period of 4-5 years where my weight went up from around 85 Kg to around 93 Kg.

Starting with weight loss!

I regularly undergo a medical examination every year. The tests for the last 2 years showed unsatisfactory outcomes on a range of parameters. Also, my blood pressure was also consistently higher than normal though not in a band that requires medication. In general I felt tired and sluggish and I was dissatisfied with this situation and made an effort to reduce weight. I succeeded in reducing weight from 93Kg to around 88Kg over 6 months. However, beyond this I could not make any progress over several months.
I was due to superannuate at the end of Feb 2016 and I wanted set up a new path in my career and it was essential that health and fitness was an important ingredient if I was to enjoy the new phase.
I felt I needed to look at things differently if I needed to get my weight and BMI to where I needed it to be. I came across TheWeightmonitor.com through word of mouth and checked it out. I liked the concept of instant measurement and feedback. I signed up
Initially, it took a little time for me to get adjusted and my scores were a little low. As I improved compliance I found could visibly see improvement in my weight and this gave me a lot of motivation. Even though I was still travelling a lot, I made sure that I maintained the discipline of diet and exercise prescribed. Getting a new life!

Today I have reached a weight of 78.2 Kg and I lost the first 9 Kg within 3 months. I feel better and my medical tests show parameters that are well within the desired ranges. I am more energetic and facing the new life I have planned post superannuation with confidence. Some of my friends and colleagues have told me that I look a few years younger too ! I am back to the weight I was at almost 20 years ago.
I have had to buy a completely new set of clothes but have done so happily.

How did I put on weight?

I used to be 70 kg during college days slowly with increased work pressure and other responsibilities I started putting on kilos and I had been at 84 Kg for long about 6 years or more. In correct eating habits and no exercise was main reason.

Starting with weight loss!

I started off to improve my health last year in April with a fixed routine of walking an hour and decreasing the food intake. I reduced till 76 by june and then I got stuck in a flip-flop mode being 76 in routine then to 78 then I would diet/ starve again (which now I understand was so un healthy) and back to 76.

Getting a new life!

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at The weight monitor and specially – My Dietitian Ms Mansi. Before starting with you, I was hesitant to begin what I thought might be another program that I’d start and quickly lose interest in. Which would ultimately lead me back in to my bad habits in eating and lack of physical activity.
But once I joined, I was so thrilled and surprised to FINALLY find a program that not only motivated me to eat more healthfully, but to really pay attention to all aspects of my overall health. I frequently recommend this application to my friends. The site is well organized and easy to use Filling the daily food diary was so easy-because of dropdown menu with suggestion to recommended proportion of Indianized food. whenever I was trying some new dish, I would quickly log in to see how much is allowed in 1 serving. Specially for those who are a little competent and committed, getting a score daily was a good way to get motivated every time you score a little less. you want to push hard to be in top bracket. The tab- “Track my progress” was also wonderful the graph and all, that shows you a tabulated result how you are loosing (progressing to your goal) was a good thing It inspired me and motivated to continue.
In my view, The weight monitor is such a better way, to monitor your food intake. I’ve already recommended the program to others who I know have goal of eating better.


Advice for anyone!

Just joining the will not make you loose. But if you join with decision to stay committed. TWM is the best way. Compete with yourself struggle improve your daily scores most importantly. I feel filling the food diary daily was very important to stay committed and be in touch with your dietitian. Above all have total faith in TWM team. your progress might be slow depending on body type and response, but TWM has done it for me, for many others and they can do it for you too !!!!

How did I put on weight?

I cannot assign any one reason for gaining weight. Over the years a sedentary life style and advancing age coupled with stress, and on and off illness which often had me taking complete bed rest may all have contributed to the excess weight.

Often I would embark on exercise and diet on my own for a few months and when I hit a plateau I would eventually fall off the wayside!

I can now walk 5 to 8 km without any difficulty, when 6 months ago I couldn’t even walk 100 mts.


Advice for anyone!

Patience and perseverance is the key. Make a lifestyle change where food and exercise is concerned, without completely giving up on anything you love. Starving is not going to get you there effectively! Do not compromise on exercise. Food and exercise go hand in hand.
